Sanchez Has A Chance To Win Starting Job Tonight

Mark Sanchez was
named the starter heading into tonight’s game against the Jaguars and will play the
entire first half with the starters. He has a very good chance to win the starting job
going into week 1 because Geno Smith might not be able to play with his mild ankle
sprain. If Geno isn’t available to go, and if Sanchez plays well he will most likely be
the starter purely based on availability during practice and solid performances in
preseason. However it seems from Rex Ryan that Geno Smith still has a chance,
“This competition is not complete,” Ryan said. “When it is, when we feel like we have
enough information, then we’ll make our decision. We’re not going to get into who’s
ahead, who’s not. Ill say right now the competition is not complete. There’s still time
to make that decision.”
Sounds like words echoed straight from John Idzik the general manager. We
all know Geno Smith is his guy, he drafted Smith in the 2nd round he wanted him to
be the starter. He also said he is going to have a major say in who the starter is
which really is a job for the coaches not the general manager. His job is to bring in
guys to compete and make the best possible roster but he wants his imprint on this
team. However, as hard as Idzik tries to rig this competition in Geno’s favor, because
of his sprained ankle and if he truly can’t go tonight it looks like it Sanchez job to
lose.
